This is Aspen’s new blog site. We are a Top 100 third-party logistics company and I (the writer of this) run the marketing department. I thought it would be interesting to push the limits of communications strategies within the logistics industry. You don't see many supply-chain companies with a web 2.0 piece in their marketing plan. Personally, I think with the recession capping most companies’ marketing dollars this is a perfect time to capitalize on social networking sites and alternative marketing strategies. They're cheap, they reach a broad audience, and they say something about your company keeping up to date with technology and innovation. I also think that blogging and other social networking sites, such as twitter or linked-in, allow companies to open a window into their core values. They let curious parties access a company's motivations and goals before getting engaged in sales orientated conversations. It’s certainly a nonintrusive way to prequalify a customer and spark their interests in what we can do better then most. I think it allows us to build deeper relationships with our customers by keeping them well informed of whom we are. Well that is it for our first blog. I'm sure many more are to follow.
